QOL Updates Coming This Wednesday!

An update packed full of quality-of-life!

Last week we deployed the student instant feedback feature to several of our instructors and their courses. It was exciting to hear that most if not all students were excited and receptive to the idea that they could get feedback whenever they wanted.

One student said: “I’m fairly skeptical when it comes to AI but I have to admit, the feedback has been pretty darn good.”

This update is focused on several quality-of-life changes coming to the instructor side of things, including better data export, post-grading review, and re-generating specific submissions.

Finally - you can duplicate individual criteria on rubrics

This has been a repeated request from many instructors. Creating a rubric from scratch takes a lot of time and rating scales are generally the same across all criteria so it made sense to create one criterion and duplicate it multiple times like below.

Re-generating specific submissions

Another long-requested feature is the ability to re-generate submissions on the fly. Occasionally, AI can return inconsistent grading suggestions or at times overly ambitious feedback. Instructors can now re-generate the grading and feedback with a simple click of a button.

Revisiting suggested grades and AI explanations

Instructors can now revisit suggested grades after grades have been confirmed. If you want to review the discrepancy between suggested grades and your confirmed grades retrospectively, you can toggle the ‘Suggested Grades’ visibility button on and off. You will also be able to see the reasoning and explanations from the AI.

Data export for suggested grades

While working with several instructional designers, we learned that the metadata around grading could prove useful for instructor review and the accreditation process. Instructors can now download suggested grades for each criterion and suggested final grade as part of their grading export.

Lastly - an updated & improved AI model

This is an update you won’t be able to see but certainly feel - when you are reviewing the AI output. The new model is more capable of tackling larger rubrics with more than 10 criteria, which we struggled with in the past.

It is also faster at processing larger batches of files which will reduce waiting time from drinking a coffee and eating a biscuit to just drinking a coffee. Jokes aside, we are looking at a 25% reduction in wait times.

These updates will be made at 1 PM PST on Wednesday, March 20th. Hopefully just in time for the grading season!
