Exciting updates are coming to TimelyGrader! You might remember our blog where we talked about Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). If you haven’t read it yet, we’d recommend reviewing it [here] to learn the specifics of how RAG works.
Today, we’re here to offer you a sneak peek at our upcoming Content Bank feature. Content Bank leverages RAG to improve feedback quality, refine grading suggestions, and further tailor the AI’s understanding of your assignment context. We’ve also made improvements to long-form text and rubrics so we can better support complex assignments with extensive rubrics. Let’s get into it!
While RAG is a complex process, building a content bank on TimelyGrader isn’t. When you’re creating an assignment on TimelyGrader, you’ll see the option to add files to that assignment’s content bank.
What kinds of files can you add?
The goal of the content bank is to provide the AI with rich context from your course materials, ensuring more accurate feedback and grading suggestions. Some files that we recommend uploading to your content bank if you have them are:
Once you’ve uploaded files to the content bank, you’ll be asked to specify the type of resource you have uploaded. We also highly recommend specifying what elements of the uploaded file you want the AI to focus on. For example, in the assignment shown above, a high-scoring exemplar paper has been uploaded, and the instructor has added the instructions “Use this exemplar paper as a baseline for grading. Analyze its structure, content, and quality to set a standard for high-scoring work. When evaluating student submissions, compare them to this example to ensure consistency and alignment with the grading criteria.”
Remember, you’re not limited to these file types, you can upload anything you believe is important context for TimelyGrader to have when generating grading and feedback suggestions.
Previously, assignments with long assignment descriptions and criterion descriptions meant that you might see a lot of text all at once, often making your grading rubric appear pretty overwhelming. For inputs like these, we’ve added a show more/less feature, so you don’t have to worry about this text taking up your full screen.
Also on the assignments page, we’ve added the ability to expand and collapse the assignment rubric so the assignment settings will be more visible to you.
We’re excited for you to experience these interface updates, so stay tuned for their release on October 16th! The content bank will follow suit!
