An Actual SpeedGrader?

Every time I bring up the SpeedGrader on Canvas, I get a laugh from the instructor that I am speaking to. Turns out, it isn’t quite as speedy as they thought.

We are going to change that with the introduction of a new grading workflow on TimelyGrader. From consulting dozens of instructors and instructional designers, we’ve decided to create two grading workflows.

1) The classic SpeedGrader workflow

Essentially, your screen is split into two parts. One is the preview for the student work and another is the rubric. Having this side-by-side view allows for constant quick views of the student's work and rubric. There are new pop-ups for AI-suggested grades, reasoning, and rubrics. If you are used to the SpeedGrader, think of this as SpeedGrader+.

One downside is screen clutter and by showing both, you are not focusing on either. We are addressing this in the full document view below.

2) The Full Document workflow

You can also opt to hide the rubric which enables the full document view. In this view, the focus shifts entirely to the preview of the student’s work. This allows instructors to quickly read the relevant parts of the AI-suggested grades and feedback.

If you disagree with the AI, there is an easy way to edit the grade like below.

Editing grades manually

This was all made possible with grading and feedback annotations. Grading suggestions for each criterion will now appear on the student's work and highlight the necessary parts of the student's work for review.

Our goal is to increase the speed at which instructors validate AI-suggested output and make grading more efficient at scale.
